Optimal preparation for Live Export

Wednesday, 8 August 2018 – 8:30am to 4pm : : This event is hosted by the MLA/LiveCorp Livestock Export Program (LEP) at Wellard’s Rural Export Facility at Baldivis. It is designed to provide you with the latest information relating to livestock preparation for the live trade including an exporter panel session, topical workshops and presentations led by commercial exporters with technical support and insight from some of Australia’s leading researchers. It is designed to be an interactive day with concurrent sessions run at the feedlot. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the LEP.

Tour 2 - On Farm Innovation

On Farm Innovation

Wednesday, 8 August 2018 – 7:30am to 4pm : : LambEx delegates are invited on the one-day On Farm Innovation Tour. On this tour you will visit Harmony Agriculture & Food Co’s new facility at Woottating. Next, Tristan O’Brien’s property at Northam will highlight his large scale innovative system including lamb finishing on standing vetch and new commercial poultry operation. The tour’s last visit to Mount Ronan White Suffolk & Maternals is hosted by Guy Bowen and daughter Elise Bowen discussing their breeding program, and then the Murdoch research team (including Elise) will interactively present their research projects conducted on the property. Our coach will return to the Perth airport by 4pm and onto the Perth, PCEC by 5pm.

Tour 3 A - Applied Research (accommodation standard)

Wednesday 8 Aug 6:30am – Thursday 9 Aug 2018 4pm : : LambEx delegates are invited to the two-day Applied Research Tour.

DAY ONE – Our tour begins at the University of WA Farm at Ridgefield focusing on Australian Native Shrub Forage Systems and the Merino Lifetime Productivity Project. From here we travel to Clayton South’s property at Wagin where he will expand on the application of technology and tools to future-proof his sheep business as well as a presentation from Andrew Ritchie, Sheep’s Back Team Leader on benchmarking. Next, the Katanning Research Facility will provide a showcase of their key research projects including new technologies and DEXA demonstration by WAMMCO. Day one concludes with Southern Dirt hosting dinner at the Saleyards Café in Katanning with presentations from David Thompson of Moojepin Merino’s and Sean Starling from MLA.

DAY TWO – Following an overnight stay in Katanning, Craig Heggaton’s property Genstock will provide a tour of Feed mill, AI Centre, Feedlot and a display of Merinotech rams. The tour’s final visit to Brad Woolridge’s property at Wagin will look at all things pasture. Our coach will return to the Perth airport by 4pm and onto the Perth CBD by 5pm. (Subject to availability, tour numbers and weather).
